Didn't really think but I guess the "publish" option would be good enough. Hmm I have it installed and was playing with it. LMI does thisīeen playing with it for the past hour or so. As in, "Go to this link, enter your name, spiceworks ticket# and hit Request Support" easy. ScreenConnect needs a customer-initiated support option. I just installed it on my Microserver and it works like a champ (along with Spiceworks and others lol!) You need a spare server to host it on though. Http:/ Opens a new window / If you like me have a boat load of machines to manage this pricing model and feature set look excellent and just what I'm after. Will try in future with 2factor disabled. I tried to create an app password since I have Google 2factor authentication enabled for that account, but it wouldn't accept it. Looks like Google Remote Desktop authentication failed when I viewed it on target PC. Looks like Google Remote Desktop has some kinks to work out (See post below from KC Tech at 11:25 AM) I've had to remove the "inactive" duplicate within Google Remote Desktop (app on my end) and rename the replacement. When I re-enable Google Remote Desktop on target PC again, it shows up as duplicate connection on my PC. I've had 2 occurrences so far with a target PC showing "offline" on my end. Recommend using TeamViewer HOST as a secondary "emergency" backdoor I had one instance where I renamed a target PC from my PC (I was signed out on the target PC) and the connection was lost, but the remote service was still running on the target pc. Do not try to rename it signed out on target PC, you may lose connection. Under Google Remote Desktop "My Computers" on the target PC, as long as you're logged into Google on the target PC, you can rename the ID of the target PC. There's no setting for changing color depth or resolution, and no options for file transfers I was able to use KeePass to autotype PIN data using the "autotype" target window and "use custom keystrokes" feature in keepass. There's no built-in "wake on lan", so disable sleep mode on a PC you need 24/7 access with, or find a workaround. You must manually lock the session before disconnecting. When you disconnect the session, it WILL NOT autolock your Windows logon session. Click on it, and enter the PIN to connect to the PC.Ĭonsider installing Google Remote Desktop to a windows profile end users don't have access to, and password protect it.Ĭonsider Google 2factor authentication on the email used for Google Remote Desktop. Under Google Remote Desktop on your PC, go to "My Computers" and you will see the target computer there. Now download and install Google Chrome (NOT PORTABLE CHROME) on your PC, logon as the same username you setup with, and install Google Remote Desktop app. otherwise it gets caught in a weird "sign back in" reauthorize offline access loop. ![]() VERY IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a separate "sign out" link under Google Remote Desktop Chrome App section, DO NOT sign out from there. Now exit the Google Remote Desktop section and go to your home URL or Opens a new window and "sign out" of Google Chrome, it'll ask if you wish to "allow offline remote connections" say yes. Make sure to save the pin somewhere like KeePass password manager. ![]() Go to "My Computers" and click "enable remote connections" and create a PIN. Look for and install the Google Remote Desktop app in ChromeStoreĪccept the prompts to allow access (access all data) because yes you are connecting into the PC to get all accessĪfter install, there are 2 options within the RemoteDesktop App "Remote Assistance" and "My Computers". ![]() In my case I used the "Google Alternate Installer for SINGLE user", and installed Chrome under a windows profile that end users don't have access to (Target PC "Administrator" profile account) You must download and install Chrome on the target PC and logon as yourself or designated google email account. THIS IS NOT a replacement for LMI free, but a quick way to buy time for more permanent alternatives. I was able to access the target PC, with Chrome browser completely closed. It also installs remote access "as a service" called "Chrome Remote Desktop Service" set to "Automatic". Ok I can confirm that Google Remote Desktop is free and worked in quick testing.
